BAJA SAE India 2017 virtual round attracts 413 engineering college teams

The Mahindra Group-sponsored two-day event will be held at Christ College in Bangalore from June 24 to 25, 2017.

BAJA SAE India 2017 virtual round attracts 413 engineering college teams

As many as 413 teams from various engineering colleges from across India will participate in the virtual round of the 10th edition of BAJA SAE India, the Mahindra Group-sponsored two-day event that will be held at Christ College in Bangalore from June 24 to 25, 2017.

Each team comprises of five students and the event is likely to see participation from around 2,000 engineering students.   

BAJA SAE series is an event for the undergraduate engineering students organised globally by the Society of Automotive Engineers, USA and has been attracting student community and professionals since its launch in 1976.

According to Ravi Kharul, convener, BAJA SAE India 2017 and Chief Technological Officer, Endurance Technologies, “Virtual BAJA 2016 is a unique event which is one of its kind among all the BAJA events that take place across the world. Over the past few years, we have seen  the participation of around 300 to 400 teams from all over the country and this number keeps increasing year after year.”.

The Indian edition of the series, the BAJA SAE India which began in 2007, tasks the students to conceptualise design, build, test and validate a single-seater, four-wheeled All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to take part in a series of events spread over a course of three days.

All the teams at the virtual round at Christ University will have to make a presentation on their design, followed by an online test, which will carry equal weight ages in their final selection. The evaluation process will test every participant’s knowledge on rulebook and general mechanical and automotive engineering questions. Based on the performance in virtual BAJA, the teams would be selected for participation in the main event to be held in NATRIP, Pithampur near Indore from February 15 to 19.
