The Auto Expo 2020, one of Asia's largest automotive shows which is jointly organised by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), is underway. At New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, over 1,500 auto component and accessory manufacturers from 20 countries are showcasing their latest products and technologies. According to ACMA, this is a increase of 25% as compared to the previous edition and in a time of slowdown.

Auto Expo 2020 –Components officially kicked off at the Pragati Maidan with chief guest, Arun Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, inaugurating the four-day trade fair. The inaugural session is completed with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the guests of honour. Goel said: “As we prepare for Industry 4.0, we will move towards disruptions in the systems of production and manufacturing networks, which can be challenging. But in terms of technology, we are not laggards.”

“The automotive industry is not just changing mobility, but giving us inclusive growth as well, said Deepak Jain, President, ACMA.  He added, “Growth with a focus on safety is the other overriding element that is gaining currency across the auto industry. Our unique pavilion on safety, which is part of ACMA’s ‘Safer Drives’ campaign, is set to educate people to ensure that their vehicles are fitted with appropriate safety equipment to minimise any untoward eventuality in case of road accidents.”

Jain added, “The auto component industry has shown strong resilience amidst the prevailing challenges.  This expo’s theme, ‘Technovation - Discover Innovations for Future’ reflects our determination to steer the industry forward with greater value-addition, instil a positive sentiment and showcase the technological prowess, while providing more opportunities for growth.”

The visitors at the expo will witness latest advancements in BSVI and Emissions, Safety, and e-mobility among various others. ACMA is also hosting an IPO forum which will bring together IPOs (International Purchase Offices) of various multinational OEMs. Exports promotion and forging international relationships is a key focus of the current expo. There are theme-based pavilions for EVs, Start-ups and Innovation in which several companies are displaying their prowess in specific segments.

In sync with the demand and the need of the global automotive world, the theme for the show revolves around the e-mobility megatrend, which is practically the global mantra at the moment. Vinnie Mehta, Director-General, ACMA, said, “This expo’s theme – Technovation2020 – is reflective of our determination to steer the industry forward with greater value-addition, instill a positive sentiment and showcase technological prowess, while providing more opportunities for growth.”

Rajan Wadhera, President, SIAM reiterated the sentiment across the automotive world, saying “Companies have done huge investments in the automobile sector which has driven development of employment.”

“The Auto Expo 2020 aims to aid development of our nation by providing space for innovation and information, said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII at the inaugural ceremony.

“We are the ‘gear’ that is ‘accelerating’ India’s growth ‘engine’ and a key ‘driver’ of the ‘Make in India’ program of our government. This Expo is therefore a true reflection of the component industry’s shared achievements and excellence,” pointed out Deepak Jain, President, ACMA, in a tweet.
