Avtec, the CK Birla Group company, has displayed a newly developed futuristic four-cylinder, 1.8-litre, Euro 5 petrol engine which can generate a maximum power output of 134bhp at 6000rpm. The company has developed this engine under a technical tie-up with Peugeot Citroen Moteurs, a division of PSA Peugeot Citroen. Company officials say that the engine has been developed specifically under an export project for passenger car application.
The company is also displaying an all-new, in-house designed transfer case (two-speed, three- position electrical shift transfer box with differential lock) with the MSG5Z model name. According to company data, the new transfer case has transmission applications for SUVs and can be extended to commercial vehicles, off-highway equipment and tractors.
Company officials told Autocar Professional that Avtec has entered into a joint venture with Russia’s ZVD Group to set up an engine and transmission assembly plant at a special economic zone close to a town named Togliatti in Russia in late 2013. They expect the plant to be operational in 2015 when Avtec plans to export and assemble engines and transmission systems there for its global clients. The exports from India, which will begin in 2015, will include the new Euro 5-compliant 1.8-litre petrol engine and the transfer case on display at the ongoing Components Show at Pragati Maidan.
The $ 1.6 billion Avtec is one of the largest independent manufacturers of powertrain and precision engineered products in India.
