ATUM Charge sets up solar-powered EV charging in Mumbai suburb

The company has already installed 250 charging stations across the country.

ATUM Charge, which says it is India's first 100 percent self-sustaining solar-powered EV charging station, has inaugurated a charging station in Malad, a Mumbai suburb.

The company has already installed 250 charging stations across the country, and in Mumbai, it will be setting up an EV charging station, the ATUM Solar Roof, with a capacity of 5.2KW. The solar-powered charger has been patented in India, the US and South Africa.

With this installation, ATUM Charge is creating an environment friendly and sustainable eco-system with the launch of its universal EV charging stations, the company said.

Vamsi Gaddam, Joint Managing Director, said, “We are pleased to announce that with the assistance of our specialists and R&D team, we have added a new chapter to our quest for sustainability in Mumbai, ushering in a new era of green revolution.

The ATUM modules installed are 16 units of 325 WP, generating 24 Kwh per day and 8,760 Kwh per year. Through this endeavour, 51 trees were rescued from being felled and reduced CO2 emissions by 4395 kg, said a company press note.

Mumbai which is considered India’s financial capital has taken several initiatives in recent months to reduce its carbon footprint. The city wants to be net zero by the year 2050, which is 20 years ahead of the goal set for the country as a whole by the central government. The city’s transport system hopes to induct electric double deckers in the near future.
