Under its Road to school CSR program, Ashok Leyland transformed a 100 year old school in Alinjivakkam into a model school.

Ashok Leyland, under its CSR initiative has developed a 100-year old school in Alinjivakkam into a model school in the Puzhal education block of Thiruvallur district. The school has been inaugurated as a part of Ashok Leyland’s CSR initiative – Road to School Program. The inauguration was carried out by N V Balachandar, president-HR, and Communication and CSR in the presence of senior officials from Ashok Leyland, Education Department and local community representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, N.V Balachandar, president – HR, communication and CSR said, “The company has been leading this project and seen it nurture and grow from strength to strength”. He further added that “Road to School initiative has changed many children’s lives. We at Ashok Leyland want to drive real, meaningful change among the student community. For us the initiative is not just a CSR program it is something that draws company-wide involvement. The ‘Road to School’ helps nurture both scholastic and co-scholastic development of children from government schools in remote locations covering health, personal hygiene, wellness, & nutrition supplement, and emotional development including sports and music.” 

Ashok Leyland’s CSR initiative to develop Model School is to leverage education for the underprivileged children studying in government schools, under the banner “Education as a Social Leveler” and aims at increasing access and providing enhanced quality education for students in a conducive learning environment. The ‘Road to School’ program which was started in the year 2015 with 36 schools in Shoolagiri and Thally, in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu has expanded its wings in the districts of Thiruvallur, Namakkal & Salem in the last 3 years to cover 714 schools impacting 56000 children.
