Anand Mahindra: "The story of 'Innovated in India' has just begun."
Mahindra Group chairman urges engineers to strike a fine balance between design, frugality and sustainability to deliver world-class products and services.
It's time to accelerate from Make in India to Innovate in India. That's what Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, says in his foreword for the upcoming 11th NASSCOM Design & Engineering Summit to be held on the theme of 'Future of Engineering: Designing an Intelligent Eco-system' from September 26-27 at the Leela Palace, Bangalore.
The Summit aims to manifest how the ER&D sector is prepping for the next big design revolution by embracing the latest innovations and translating all possible imagination into engineering practices to match the pace with the evolutionary digital era.
Mr Mahindra says, "There is a sense of excitement in India about spurring innovation at a pace never witnessed before. Doing more with less, getting it ‘First Time Right, and a genuine passion to create anew. These are some of the key driving factors that make India the new destination for innovative, sustainable and advanced engineering and design initiatives. I think the Indian mindset has moved from one of ‘Jugaad’ to one of ‘Jhakaas’. The jugaad mindset was about just ‘making do’. On the other hand, the Jhakaas mindset is about thinking outside the box to ‘create’ something truly unique and awe-inspiring.
I encourage engineers across all segments to strike a fine balance between design, frugality and sustainability to deliver world-class products and services. Emphasis needs to be placed on managing the balance between structured processes and the creation of an environment in which radical innovations can succeed.
I recommend that global corporations consider India the appropriate location for originating technology services and product development for the digital world. We are re-imagining tomorrow and breaching frontiers with great momentum. The story of 'Innovated in India' has just begun."
