20 startups to be part of Auto Expo 2020, SIAM expects 70 unveiling and product launches

Around 20 different startups will be part of the 15th edition of Auto Expo - The Motor Show, 2020. The event which has been a launchpad for many key brands in the Indian automotive industry will see more than 70 unveiling and product launches from a range of OEMs, as we already reported. Many  non-SIAM members will also be showcasing their products at the event.

“Last year, we had 11 startups which have now increased to 20. These startups will be mostly in electric vehicle and its technology sectors,” said, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, in Chennai.

With the theme of ‘Explore the World of Mobility, this year’s exhibits will display products that are in line with the industry’s vision of safer, cleaner, connected and shared mobility. The Expo is organised by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) with support from Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). It is said, around 10 global launches, 26 India launches, six concept vehicles, seven facelifts and 21 unveilings are planned for the event.

According to Sugato Sen, Deputy Director-General, SIAM, “Chinese companies including GreatWall will mark their entry this year. Companies like, Volkswagen, Skoda and Nissan who were not part of 2018 expo will be present this time. The difficult times in the industry and other business challenges have kept a few OEMs away from this year’s expo.”

The show will not just be a futuristic perspective of the Indian auto industry but also would showcase the preparedness to adapt to the new norms. It will feature the new emission technology products and vehicles with more safety standards making it an appropriate platform to facilitate Indian automobile industry’s transition to BS VI.

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM further elaborated on the central theme of the Expo, “This year, the industry together will put the best efforts to give a new dimension and feel to the visitors. The 15th Edition of the auto show will be one of the cleanest and greenest expo ever with a wide range of clean and green vehicles. We are looking at the expo as a revival in the consumer sentiment and a rise in the Indian auto industry. We hope the market will be better from the second half of the next fiscal.”
