The Maruti Swift hatchback has just recorded another milestone. The car, which turns 10 years old this month, has crossed the 1.3 million sales landmark.

Commenting on the landmark, RS Kalsi, executive director (M&S), said: “Over 1.3 million Swift cars have been bought in India so far. Over the years, the Swift has evolved in features, looks and technology, often defining the changes in aspiration and preferences of Indian car customers.”

Launched as a world strategic model and in Japan in November 2004, the Swift rolled out in India in May 2005, got a diesel variant two years later, and a full model change in August 2011. In its latest avatar, the Swift Diesel saw a 10 percent increase in fuel efficiency while the Swift Petrol’s efficieincy improved by 9.5 percent.
