Tata Nexon EV scores 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP's crash tests

The Tata Nexon EV has secured a perfect 5-star rating from Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) in its latest round of crash tests. The Nexon EV was tested alongside the Punch EV, and received a 5-star safety rating for both adult and occupant protection.

Out of 32 maximum points for adult occupant protection, the Nexon EV scored 29.86 points, earning a 5-star rating. The two tests that were performed include ‘Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test’ wherein the e-SUV scored 14.26 points out of 16, while it achieved 15.60/16 points in the ‘Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test’.

As for the child occupant protection, the Nexon EV scored a dynamic score of 23.95/24, a CRS (child restraint system) installation score of 12/12 and 9 points out of 13 for vehicle assessment. The Nexon EV was crash tested in May 2024, and the results are applicable for both the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) versions of the electric SUV.

The Nexon EV is the second electric vehicle assessed by Bharat NCAP after the Punch EV that also secured an identical safety rating for both adult and child occupancy.

Difference between Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP

There’s not much that separates the Bharat NCAP from Global NCAP and the processes implemented by each organisation. One of the major differences, though, is that under Global NCAP, the maximum score that can be attained for AOP is 34 points, while under Bharat NCAP, it is 32 points. Other than this, the crash test protocols and assignment of ratings seem to be quite similar. Here’s an in-depth look at what's different between the two crash test ratings.
