SWITCH Mobility Deploys 272 Electric Buses in Delhi as Part of 950-Unit Order
SWITCH Mobility has flagged off 272 electric buses in Delhi under a CESL tender, marking Phase 2 of a 950-bus deployment aimed at strengthening the capital's sustainable public transport infrastructure.
New Delhi witnessed a significant milestone in its transition to green public transport as SWITCH Mobility, a global manufacturer of electric buses and light commercial vehicles, officially flagged off 272 SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Buses on February 9, 2026. The ceremony, held at Ramlila Maidan, was presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside senior government officials and transport authorities.
The deployment forms part of a larger contract awarded under the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) tender, which will see SWITCH Mobility supply 950 electric buses to Delhi across multiple depots. The company delivered 93 buses in Phase 1, with the current Phase 2 adding 272 units to the fleet.
The buses, manufactured at SWITCH's facility in Tamil Nadu, feature ultra-low entry design with kneeling and tilting mechanisms for easier boarding. Additional features include floor-mounted batteries for enhanced stability, rear-mounted charger ports, automated wheelchair ramps, and advanced fire detection systems. The SWITCH iON technology monitors over 140 parameters and provides more than 80 alerts for operational efficiency.
The phased rollout will cover key locations including Okhla Srinivas Puri Depot, Grand Trunk Road Depot, and Rajghat Bus Terminal. Ohm Global Mobility will support the operational deployment and service integration.
Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, described the deployment as a significant step in strengthening Delhi's electric public transport ecosystem, emphasizing the company's commitment to delivering scalable, high-performance electric buses that reduce emissions while improving passenger experience.
The initiative aligns with Delhi's broader vision to become the city with the largest electric bus fleet in operation, contributing to improved air quality and reduced carbon emissions for millions of daily commuters.
SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has deployed over 1,250 electric buses globally, accumulating more than 150 million kilometers. The company also manufactures electric light commercial vehicles, with over 1,000 units currently operational.
