Microchip Technology and Hyundai Motor Group Partner on Ethernet Technology for Vehicles

Microchip Technology has announced a collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group to explore advanced in-vehicle network solutions using 10BASE-T1S Single Pair Ethernet technology. The partnership aims to develop more efficient and scalable vehicle architectures for future mobility applications.

The collaboration focuses on integrating Microchip's 10BASE-T1S solutions into Hyundai's upcoming vehicle platforms, with particular emphasis on electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, and smart mobility features. As part of the agreement, Hyundai will receive technical support and early access to product samples from Microchip to accelerate development and optimize system performance.

Single Pair Ethernet technology is becoming increasingly important as vehicles incorporate more advanced driver-assistance systems and connected features. The technology enables seamless connectivity across vehicle systems while reducing wiring complexity, lowering costs, and simplifying network integration by minimizing the need for multiple communication buses.

The 10BASE-T1S standard supports multi-drop Ethernet communication over a single twisted pair of wires, extending network connectivity to edge devices, actuators, and sensors throughout the vehicle. This approach offers improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional networking architectures.

Matthias Kaestner, corporate vice president of Microchip's automotive, data center, and networking business, emphasized the growing importance of high-performance networks as the industry moves toward software-defined vehicles. He noted that the company's Single Pair Ethernet portfolio helps customers reduce cost, risk, and time to market.

A representative from Hyundai Motor Group stated that partnering with Microchip allows the company to leverage Ethernet expertise to support next-generation vehicle connectivity and accelerate the adoption of 10BASE-T1S technology.

Microchip Technology, headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, provides semiconductor solutions across industrial, automotive, consumer, aerospace and defense, communications, and computing markets.
