Meine Electric's Fast-Charging Iron-Air Battery Clears Independent Validation
Indian deep-tech startup Meine Electric's fast-charging iron-air battery has cleared independent laboratory validation by CES, supporting the company's claims of daily-cycling long-duration renewable energy storage.
Indian deep-tech startup Meine Electric said its Fast Charge Long Discharge (FCLD) iron-air battery system has been independently validated by Customized Energy Solutions (CES), a US-headquartered energy services and technology company that is the parent organisation of the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA).
The company said the technology allows the battery to charge in six hours and discharge over 18 hours, and described it as the world's first fast-charging iron-air battery system for long-duration energy storage (LDES).
According to Meine Electric, the CES Battery Laboratory tested two iron-air electrochemical cells under a structured protocol assessing electrochemical performance, capacity retention and operational stability, including under an asymmetric duty cycle of six hours of charging followed by 18 hours of discharging.
The company said iron-air battery chemistry has historically been constrained by longer charge cycles, with existing global approaches, including systems from Form Energy in the US and Ore Energy in Europe, built around multi-day storage applications with discharge durations of up to 100 hours, citing a DataM Intelligence market report on long-duration energy storage. Meine Electric said its FCLD technology, developed through proprietary electrode processes and system architecture, is designed instead for daily-cycling use.
Founded in 2023 by Mohan and Stuti Kakkar, Meine Electric describes itself as the first company in the Asia-Pacific region, and the third globally, working on iron-air long-duration energy storage. The company said its technology operates at a levelised cost of storage of under $0.05 per kWh (around ₹5/kWh), and positioned its daily-cycling batteries as a complement to lithium-ion storage.
Stuti Kakkar, co-founder and COO of Meine Electric, said the company sees iron-air technology as a foundational infrastructure component for supporting renewable grids, citing industry demand for lower costs and higher reliability.
Meine Electric said the CES validation adds third-party credibility to its technology roadmap as it moves toward larger-scale demonstrations and pilot deployments. The company has previously received industry recognition, including the National Startup Award 2026 and the Nasscom Emerge 50 Award, according to its own statement.
