LeafyBus achieves 900 km daily operation with electric buses on Delhi-Dehradun route

LeafyBus, a New Delhi-based electric bus operator, has implemented India's first 360 KW fast-charging infrastructure, enabling its electric buses to complete three daily round trips between Delhi and Dehradun, covering 900 kilometers within 24 hours. The charging system, developed in partnership with GLIDA India (formerly Fortum Charge & Drive India), reduces charging time to under 50 minutes per session.

The company has equipped its fleet with safety features including CCTV surveillance, real-time tracking, Driver Monitoring Systems, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The service provides air-conditioned travel with emphasis on passenger security and punctuality.

"The 360 KW fast charger has addressed the charging time challenge in electric mobility," said Rohan Dewan, Co-Founder and CEO of LeafyBus. "Our Delhi-Dehradun route demonstrates the viability of electric vehicles in intercity transport."

To expand operations, LeafyBus has formed a partnership with JBM Electric Vehicles for the acquisition of 200 electric buses. The company has also secured financing from AMU, a Non-Banking Financial Company, for its initial fleet of 10 electric buses for intercity operations.

The development comes as India's electric vehicle market continues to grow, with the government pushing for increased adoption of electric vehicles in public transportation. The Indian electric bus market has seen significant expansion since 2022, with several state transport authorities transitioning to electric fleets to reduce emissions and operating costs.

The achievement marks a step forward in India's electric vehicle infrastructure development, particularly in the intercity transport segment where range and charging time have been traditional barriers to electric vehicle adoption. The success of long-distance electric bus operations could provide a model for other operators considering the switch to electric vehicles.
