Maruti Suzuki India Limited and the Gujarat government formalized an investment agreement for a new manufacturing facility in Khoraj, with the automaker committing Rs 35,000 crore to the project, according to ANI.
The investment letter handover ceremony took place in Gandhinagar in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Hitachi Takeuchi. The planned facility will have an annual production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles and is expected to create approximately 12,000 employment opportunities.
Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) will provide 1,750 acres of land for the plant. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Maruti Suzuki Whole Time Director and Executive Committee Member Sunil Kakkar also attended the ceremony.
Maruti Suzuki commenced operations in India in 1983 with its initial production facility in Gurugram, Haryana. The automaker plans to expand its total manufacturing capacity to 4 million units per annum to address domestic demand and serve international markets.
In 2025, Maruti Suzuki India produced over 22.55 lakh units, marking its highest-ever annual production, according to a company statement. This represents the second consecutive year the manufacturer has surpassed 20 lakh units in annual production, including vehicles for domestic sales, exports, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplies.
The company's top five models by production volume during the year were Fronx, Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Ertiga.
