Yamaha Motor Co has announced today that its Indian subsidiary, India Yamaha Motor, has been awarded the India Design Mark (I Mark) by the India Design Council for its Saluto motorcycle as well as the Fascino scooter. After initially receiving it in 2012, the company has now received this award every year for the past five years.

Launched on April 17, 2015, the 125cc Saluto is a commuter motorcycle priced at Rs 52,000. It develops 8.2bhp and 10.1 Nm of torque and comes with a four-speed gearbox. The 112kg Saluto is claimed to deliver 78 kilometres per litre fuel economy facilitated by Yamaha’s Blue Core engine technology.

The 113cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder Fascino scooter is Yamaha’s attempt to ride the booming scooter sales wave in India and it is succeeding at that. Launched in May 2015, the 103kg Fascino develops 7bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 0.8kgm is produced at 5000rpm. It comes with the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) type gearbox. Priced at Rs 52,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the stylish Fascino is available in red, white, black and two shades of blue.

The India Design Council is affiliated with the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and established the India Design Mark award (corresponding to the G Mark, Japan's Good Design Award) through a partnership agreement with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. In 2016, the fifth year of these awards, there were 59 award recipients including the Saluto and Fascino out of the 220 applications received.
