TVS Motor Company, India’s second largest scooter player in the domestic market, has achieved sales of 100,000 units of its first 125cc scooter in a little over seven months since its commercial launch.

The TVS NTorq 125, which was launched in February 2018, has been registering a gradual increase in its demand across the country. It is understood that the company, which is aiming to sell about 200,000 units of the TVS NTorq 125 in the first year of its launch (by February 2019), is aligned with its plan until now.

Powered by a BS IV-compliant, three-valve, four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 124.79cc engine, the TVS Ntorq 125, which was launched with an aggressive price tag of around Rs 58,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) earlier this year, offered several segment-first features including the TVS SmartXonnect.

The all-new technology platform from the stable of TVS Motor, the TVS SmartXonnect, offers Bluetooth connectivity with the rider’s mobile phone (via a mobile app), thus providing navigation assist, location assist, call / sms alerts, rider stats and several other features. The TVS NTorq became the only scooter in its segment offering a fully digital console with over 50 features.

To mark the 100,000 sales milestone, the company has rolled out a new colour variant – metallic red – which is strategic as it will maintain the demand for the 125cc scooter in the coming festive season.

Commenting on the milestone, Aniruddha Haldar, vice-president (Marketing) – Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters & Corporate Brand, TVS Motor Company, said, “The TVS NTorq 125, our first 125cc scooter, is also India's first Bluetooth connected scooter. GenZ, our intended audience, has responded with love to this new offering.’’

The TVS NTorq was first launched in yellow, red, green and white colour options (all matte finish). Later in April 2018, the company added more colour variants that included blue and grey (metallic finish) to accelerate sales.

The scooter is already giving a tough fight to its arch-rival, the 125cc Honda Grazia in the domestic market. It is, clearly, consolidating TVS Motor’s position in the surging scooter segment along with its top-selling scooter, the Jupiter.
