Piaggio India begins production of Aprilia SR 150

Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL) today rolled out the first Aprilia SR 150 from its plant in Baramati.

Available for Rs 65,000 in matte black and white, the Aprilia SR 150 is powered by a 150cc engine and is shod with tubeless wider sport street tyres. With the Aprilia SR 150, Piaggio aims to carve out a new category of crossover bikes in India’s two-wheeler market. The design of the crossover bike aims to appeal to young riders who are looking for the feel of a sports bike coupled with the convenience of an automatic scooter.

Product highlights include a sporty handlebar with integrated turn indicator lights and twin pod analogue unit for the speedometer, and a steel frame structure provides higher rigidity while delivering unmatched manoeuvrability.

Speaking at the rollout function, Stefano Pelle, managing director and CEO, PVPL, said, “With the rollout of the Aprilia SR 150, it is indeed a proud moment for us here at the Piaggio group.  The first India-made Aprilia only reiterates our India commitment. The SR 150 is a one of its kind from the Aprilia stable, especially since this bike is customised for the Indian market and produced locally. The crossover segment in India is in its nascent stage and we are yet to see its full potential; with the Aprilia SR 150 we aim to capitalise on this opportunity. Aprilia worldwide is known for its racing heritage and we have packed some of the superbikes abilities like performance and handling in this compact SR 150.”

The Aprilia SR 150 will be available through Piaggio’s dealership network in the country as well as its Motoplex stores in Pune, Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad.
