Hyundai makes dual airbags standard fitment in Verna, i20 Active and Elite i20

In what is a huge fillip to safety in the automotive industry, Hyundai Motor India, the country’s second largest car manufacturer and largest passenger car exporter, has announced that it is making dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard fitment in the Verna sedan and dual airbags in the Elite i20 and i20 Active hatchbacks for Model Year 2016.

It may be recollected that in November 2015, Autocar India, Autocar Professional's sister magazine, had broken the news first about Hyundai planning to make airbags standard in these cars.

The 2016 Verna gets dual airbags and ABS as standard and six airbags as an option. Additionally, sedan will now get a smart infotainment system with a large touch screen, an audio video navigation system along with a shark fin antenna. The Verna also gets a standard warranty of three years/unlimited kilometres.

Meanwhile, the high-selling Elite i20 and i20 Active models also get dual airbags as standard across all trims. The two cars also get projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps (DRL) and cornering lamps. Also, a new body colour called Phantom Black has been introduced in the colour line-up. The safety features offered in Elite i20 and i20 Active come without any change in the entry price, says Hyundai Motor India.
