Matter Aera Launches in Delhi, Introduces India’s First Geared Electric Motorcycle at ₹1.93 Lakh
As the festive season nears, MATTER expands into the capital with its AERA electric motorcycle, featuring a 4-speed manual gearbox, liquid-cooled powertrain, and connected technology developed for Indian riding conditions.
Matter, an Ahmedabad-based electric mobility startup, has launched its flagship electric motorcycle, the Aera, in New Delhi. Priced at an introductory ex-showroom rate of ₹1,93,826, the Aera becomes available to Delhi customers ahead of the festive season, with bookings open on the company’s official website.
Designed and manufactured in India, the Aera introduces what the company claims to be the country’s first geared electric motorcycle. It features a four-speed manual transmission system, HyperShift, aimed at offering a manual riding feel in an electric vehicle format. The model also integrates connected and digital capabilities for added utility.
According to Arun Pratap Singh, Founder and Group COO, Matter, “Delhi presents a significant opportunity for electric mobility adoption. The Aera is designed to align with the evolving needs of urban riders, with features that combine performance, technology, and efficiency.”
The Aera is equipped with a 4-speed HyperShift gearbox, combined with three ride modes, offering a total of 12 riding combinations. It runs on a liquid-cooled powertrain tailored for Indian road and weather conditions and includes a 5kWh battery pack with an IP67 rating. The certified IDC range is up to 172 km, and the motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in under 2.8 seconds.
A 7-inch touchscreen dashboard provides navigation, ride statistics, music controls, and supports over-the-air (OTA) updates. The Aera includes dual disc brakes with ABS, a dual suspension system, and smart park assist.
Additional features include a smart key for keyless operation and the MatterVerse mobile application, which enables ride analytics, remote lock/unlock, live tracking, and geo-fencing. The company estimates a low running cost of 25 paise per kilometre and potential savings of up to ₹1 lakh over three years of city commuting.
Founded in 2019, Matter is focused on building a self-reliant electric mobility ecosystem. The company has over 600 personnel and claims to have filed more than 350 patents, with 75 granted. Its innovations span powertrains, gearbox systems, liquid cooling, battery management, and manufacturing automation.
