TVS’ domestic 2W sales tally up 9 percent in September

TVS Motor Company recorded a 9 percent growth in sales (including local and domestic) in September 2022 with sales of 379,011 units as against 347,156 units in the year-earlier month, the company said in a press release.

In the two-wheeler segment, sales rose 9 percent from 332,511 units in September 2021 to 361,729 units in September 2022, up 8 percent. Sales in August were 315,539 units, so September sales were an improvement of 14 percent.

In the domestic market, sales rose 16 percent from 244,084 units in September 2021 to 283,878 units in September 2022. The August tally was 239,325 units while the July tally was 299,658 sales, indicating an increasing trend over the second quarter of the current fiscal.

The company’s bike sales rose 2 percent from 166,046 units in September 2021 to 169,322 units in September 2022.

Scooters saw a 39 percent with sales increasing from 104,091 units in September 2021 to 144,356 units in September 2022.  The August tally was 121,866, units so September sales were up 19 percent.

The company’s electric offering, the iQube, sold 4,923 units in September numbers, bettering the August tally. It sold 766 units in September 2021.

In the overseas market, exports registered sales of 92,975 units in September 2022, down 10 percent as against sales of 102,259 units in the year-earlier month.

Two-wheeler exports registered sales of 77,851 units in September 2022 as against 88,427 units in September 2021. On the international markets front, the challenges with economic slowdown and higher inflation still persists.

The company’s three-wheeler registered 18 percent growth with the numbers increasing from 14,645 units in September 2021 to 17,282 units in September 2022.

During Q2 of FY23, two-wheelers posted a growth of 12 percent with sales of 9.77 lakh units as against sales of 8.70 lakh units in the second quarter FY 21-22. Three-wheeler registered a growth of 7 percent with sales of 0.51 lakh units in the second quarter of the current year as against 0.47 lakh units in the second quarter of FY 21-22.
