Maruti’s June sales are tepid

Its overall Q1 wholesales numbers across all segments was up 25 percent

Maruti’s June sales are tepid

Maruti’s June 2022 sales in the domestic market not including the LCV Super Carry fell one percent to 122,685 units from 124,280 units in the year-earlier month. On a sequential basis, sales were flat as compared to May 2022 numbers at 124,474 units.

Sales of  its entry-level Alto and S-Presso hatchbacks  went home to 14,442 buyers, as opposed to 17,439 customers in the same month last year, down 17 percent.

Sales of its utility vehicles (UVs) too declined 33 percent, primarily owing to the phasing out of the first-generation Vitara Brezza crossover, which was replaced with a new second -generation model only on June 30. Total UV sales were pegged at 18,880 units (June 2021: 28,172). The new Brezza was launched yesterday

Sales of other Maruti Suzuki models, however, were on an uptick, with the clutch of compact models - Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR - going home to 77,746  buyers (June 2021: 68,849 / +12.92%).

In the C segment, sales of the Ciaz more than doubled to 1,507 units as against the year-earlier month sales.

For the first quarter, Maruti’s sales have been largely flat in the passenger car segment as well as UV sales which recorded 33,941 units in April and 28,071 units in May.  

On the exports front, sales in the Q1 were 18,413, 27,191 and 23,833 units respectively.

Sales to other OEMs, which are the models that are badge-engineered as Toyota in Q1 2023 were up 68 percent to 18,523 units compared to 10,977 units in the year-earlier quarter

Sales across all vehicle segments in the domestic market recorded a 25 percent increase to 369, 154 units as against 293,062 units in the year-earlier quarter.
