Honda teaches ‘em young with road safety drive on Dussehra
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India organises all-India drive to create awareness in over 700 students.
In line with its mission to make Indian roads safer, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) rolled out a nationwide road-safety awareness drive for school children, inspired by the Indian festival of Dussehra which celebrates the victory of ‘good over evil’. The road safety education drive was aimed at school children between Classes 5 and for imparting road safety habits and making them young safety ambassadors.
As part of the initiative, Honda sensitises school children on the top 10 road safety habits covering a host of aspects and starting from a pedestrian to a two-wheeler rider.
Mixing fun with road safety training, children from different schools across India visited the traffic training park in their city. They were mentored on road safety through activities like role play activity with ‘Ravana’ as mascot, a drawing competition on theme of ‘Dussehra - Win of Good over Evil’ and ‘HelmetOnLifeOn’, cycling with riding gear, primary riding training and riding the CRF50 motorcycle.
Speaking on the significance of road safety, Prabhu Nagaraj, vice-president, Brand & Communication, HMSI, said, “Dussehra is celebrated in various forms across India but with a common belief which marks the victory of good over evil. Road accidents are among the leading causes of unnatural deaths in India, an evil which can be defeated with increased awareness on road safety.”
In India, Honda has been promoting road safety since its inception in 2001 and has disseminated road safety awareness to over 2.1 million people in the country including working professionals, college-goers, school students, home-makers and senior citizens. The company host safety programmes at 13 of its adopted traffic parks (two in Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Yeola, Hyderabad, Indore, Ludhiana, Coimbatore, Karnal and Thane) in India.
