Growing EV market sees JK Tyre unveil radials for ePVs, eCVs
The EV tyres, fitted with TMPS sensors, are available in 17.5-inch and 22.5-inch sizes.
JK Tyre has developed and unveiled a range of EV-specific smart radial tyres for all categories of buses, trucks, LCVs and passenger vehicles in India.
Designed and developed by its engineers from the global technology centre – Raghupati Singhania Centre of Excellence (RPSCOE) – the tyres have been engineered specially to the unique needs of electric mobility.
V K Misra, Technical Director, JK Tyre said, “With the evolution of the EV sector in India, the development of EV-oriented technology remains a key focus for the company. Our smart tyres are developed with EV- specific next-gen design philosophy making the entire range smarter, quieter, durable and energy efficient.”
The company says it “has developed technologies to cater to the special needs of EV and ensures ultra-low rolling resistance, improved wet and dry traction, higher durability and lower energy consumption. To meet the challenging lower noise requirements of EVs, the tread pattern has been crafted using advanced FEA simulations for lower noise and better wear characteristics.”
The EV tyres are fitted with in-house developed Treel TMPS sensors and are available in 17.5-inch and 22.5-inch tubeless sizes. The EV range of tyres (255/70R22.5 & 295/80R22.5) is being supplied to JBM EV buses.
JK Tyre’s move to diversify into tyres for EVs stems from the massive surge in demand for EVs. Retail sales of EVs across four segments – cars, two- and three-wheelers and commercial vehicles – have soared by an estimated 686% to 211,398 units in the April-June 2022 period (Q1 FY2022: 26,833 units).
