VW stops production of vehicles in Russia, suspends export

In line with the decision of many other international automakers with presence in Russia and against the background of the Russian attack on Ukraine and the resulting consequences, the Volkswagen Group has decided to stop the production of vehicles in Russia until further notice.

This decision applies to the Russian production sites in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod. Vehicle exports to Russia will also be stopped with immediate effect.

With the extensive interruption of business activities in Russia, the VW Executive Board is reviewing the consequences from the overall situation, during this period of great uncertainty and upheaval.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand is present in more than 150 markets worldwide and produces vehicles at more than 30 locations in 13 countries. Volkswagen delivered around 4.9 million vehicles in 2021. In fact, the company doubled deliveries of all-electric vehicles in 2021.  More than 369,000 electric vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) delivered worldwide in 2021.

As per the company statement in January, demand remains high and order backlog in Europe is at an all-time high of 543,000 vehicles, including 95,000 orders for all-electric IDs.
