Automobiles are a major contributor to air pollution around the world. With more than 100 million two-wheelers on road in India already, it is eminent to take a serious note of the damage that these scores of puny little pollutants are causing to the environment. However, with more awareness towards creating a better living environment, industries across the vertical are taking serious steps towards achieving an environment-friendly, but financially viable solutions. The Indian automotive industry has been very active in this front.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, we look at some of the Indian automotive manufacturers that have proven their expertise in electric two-wheelers.
Ather
The Bangalore-based electric scooter manufacturer claims that the new Ather 340 will be India's first electric smart scooter.
TVS
One of the biggest names in the Indian automobile industry also took the plunge into the whole electric scooter trend and showcased a concept at the recent auto expo called the Creon.
Hero electric
A Ludhiana-based spin-off of Hero Motocorp, this company offers 8 e-bikes and e-rickshaws that are purpose-built for different purposes.
Avon e-bikes
Another Ludhiana-based manufacturer, Avon is more popular for its bicycle company. It retails 6 products in India.
Yobykes
A product from the Gujarat-based Electrotherm, it is considered as one of the earliest entrants of the electric two-wheeler market. It retails 3 products in India.
Tork T6x
Said to be the first electric bike in India, Tork motorcycles is based out of Pune. Its first product T6, is still under development.
Twenty two motors
This Manesar –based electric scooter manufacturer currently retails only one scooter in India, which is ‘Flow’.
Okinawa
It is a Gurugram-based manufacturer established in India since 2015. Its Rajasthan-based facility builds two products in India that are retailed in India.
Ampere
Based in Coimbatore, Ampere has 1 scooter and 5 three-wheelers. Their portfolio also includes some custom-built electric vehicles that cater to various applications.
