French-based supplier Valeo has been named the world’s most valuable brand in the auto component industry, valued at US$3.4 billion and ranked well ahead of the Canadian brand Magna (brand value US$2.5 billion).
Global business valuation consultancy Brand Finance’s annual report on the world’s most valuable automobile, auto component and tyre brands puts the French supplier as the world's No. 1 valuable brand, ahead of Magna.
Originally founded as a brake manufacturer near Paris, Valeo diversified into manufacturing a wide variety of auto components, including clutches, vehicle heating and cooling, driving sensors, and car lighting systems. In recent years, an expansive acquisition strategy has seen it grow quickly as it transforms into a technology-focused supplier to the automotive industry. In addition to being the most valuable, Valeo is also the industry’s strongest brand with a brand rating of AA-.
Magna, the second-most valuable brand in the sector, also had a successful year, driven by the launch of the new BMW 5-Series and the Jaguar SUV, the E-Pace. The recently-renamed Aptiv, based in the UK, is the third most valuable brand in the sector at US$1.9 billion, and will be looking to build its new brand quickly.
