XUV500 crosses one-lakh milestone
Mahindra & Mahindra’s XUV500 has crossed the 1,00,000 milestone in sales since its launch in September 2011.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s XUV500 has crossed the 1,00,000 milestone in sales since its launch in September 2011. With this, the company said the vehicle has become the only Indian SUV in the above Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom price bracket, to achieve this distinction within three years of its launch.
The XUV500 was designed entirely in-house at Mahindra’s research and development facility.
Pravin Shah, chief executive, automotive division & international operations (AFS) said, “ This achievement reaffirms the XUV500’s immense popularity as it rightfully claims the spot of being the only SUV, above Rs 10 lakh, to repeatedly establish new milestones - be it the fastest to reach the 50,000 sales mark in January 2013 or the fastest to achieve the 1,00,000 sales mark now.”
In December 2013, M&M introduced a new, base variant, the W4, at Rs 10.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), which is nearly Rs 100,000 cheaper than the W6 variant. The launch was aimed at pushing sales of the SUV, sales of which crossed 18,000 units till June.
In May last year, M&M recalled 25,000 XUV500s for problems with the SUV’s fluid hose, front power windows and the left wiper.
