Wipro to develop smartphone-based car connectivity solutions

Bangalore, November 23, 2012: Bangalore-based Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro, has joined the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), a global body dedicated to developing cross-industry collaboration global standards and solutions for smartphone and in-vehicle connectivity.

Wipro’s association with CCC will enable India’s IT major to develop smartphone-based connected-car solutions. MirrorLink, a technology standard created by the consortium, ensures seamless communication between compliant smartphones and in-car systems like steering wheels, dashboard buttons and screens.

John Slosar, general manager, Automotive Electronics, Wipro Technologies, said: “Membership in the CCC is the logical next step in our endeavour to create the best driving experience for consumers. Our membership in CCC will further enable us to provide MirrorLink certified well tested and up to date solutions quickly to our customers."

In the automotive space, the company provides product development solutions for infotainment and telematics systems, body electronics, instrument clusters, power train and engine management systems.

More than 15,000 engineers are engaged with Wipro's Engineering R&D and Product Engineering Services. R&D services contributed to 12.4 percent of Wipro's IT services revenue in the financial year 2011-12.

Car Connectivity Consortium members are among the world's leading automotive, mobile communications and consumer electronics industry players including Toyota, Volkswagen , BMW, Daimler, Delphi, Fiat Group, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Alpine, JVC Kenwood, Panasonic and many others.
