Toyota hosts green vehicle and tech show in New Delhi

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today organised ‘Toyota Caravan’ show at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi to disseminate information and spread awareness about safety and eco-friendly technologies through a series of interactive sessions.

The event was organised on a common platform for opinion leaders from the government and industry experts along with engineering professionals from Toyota’s offices in Japan, Singapore and India.

As a pioneer of hybrid technology, Toyota also showcased its strong automotive hybrid technology in the form of the new Prius.

Comprising of sessions on the broad themes of ‘Commitment to safety with technology and education’ and ‘Creating a clean & sustainable future through environment-friendly technologies’, the seminar saw participation from government officials including Girish Shankar, secretary – Ministry of Heavy Industries; Anshu Prakash, additional secretary – Ministry of Heavy Industries; Sayed Musawwir Ali, special secretary – Department of Environment. Also present were Akito Tachibana, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor; Shekhar Viswanathan, vice-chairman and whole-time director, TKM; N Raja, director and senior VP, TKM and Raju B Ketkale, senior VP, TKM.

Commenting on the event, Girish Shankar said, “TKM’s platform has helped to reflect, share knowledge and enhance understanding on the various challenges with regard to road safety and the need for achieving a sustained environment.”

Sharing his views on the initiative, Akito Tachibana said, “Toyota believes that we have to play a greater role than just manufacturing cars. We are here to solve the bigger issues in the society leveraging our technology and innovation. We aim to offer the newest technology towards creating a sustainable earth for the next generation. Toyota takes the ownership in building a safer, cleaner & greener world for our children.”

Pushing safety

“Energy crisis and increasing pollution are some of the gravest problems faced by the world today. Through ‘Toyota Caravan’, we aim to drive awareness and steer the way to future by building ‘safest cars ensuring the safest driving experience’. We believe road safety is significant for the sustained social and economic development of a nation. Through our various safety awareness campaign, we urge every citizen to become safety brand ambassadors by changing the prevailing mindset,” added Tachibana.

N Raja said, “Although strong hybrid technology is still at a very nascent stage in India, the Camry Hybrid has received an overwhelming response from our customers, which indicates the willingness of the market to accept alternative fuel technology which not only benefits the environment but also conserves fuel.”

The Camry Hybrid is the sole hybrid model which is locally manufactured at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s second plant in Bidadi, near Bangalore. The Japanese carmaker currently sells 33 hybrid models in more than 90 global markets, having sold a cumulative 9 million hybrids.

The next ‘Toyota Caravan’ is scheduled to be held in Jaipur on November 26, 2016.
