Tata Motors’ first electric passenger car to be revealed in September
Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, announced the date for the reveal of the Tiago EV.
Tata Motors, which has seen an uptick in demand for its new lot of passenger vehicles – Tiago, Tigor and Hexa – and increased its market share, had subtly dropped a hint about its plans to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) during the company’s financial results announcement on May 23 in Mumbai.
Earlier today, Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, announced the date for the reveal of the Tiago EV. The subsidiary commented on LCV2017 – UK’s low carbon vehicle event, with a post on micro-blogging site Twitter: “Not long until we showcase our Tiago EV! The countdown is on...”
The event is scheduled to be held in Millbrook, UK, on September 6-7, 2017 where the Tiago EV might be showcased.
While the Tiago hatchback is understood to be Tata Motors’ first electric model to go on sale, the carmaker has been working on battery electric vehicles for some time now with TMETC leading the charge in developmental work.
The Indian government’s recent push towards electric vehicles is sure to have given a fillip to Tata’s plans to roll out its own range of EVs sooner rather than later. Apart from the Tiago EV, electric versions of the Nano have also been spotted testing near Coimbatore, with shared mobility solutions provider Ola expected to provide a ready market for the vehicle.
