Nissan takes its road safety programme to more cities across India

Nissan is going all out to raise road safety awareness in India. The carmaker's Nissan Safety Driving Forum (NSDF) is being extended to more cities across India.

NSDF is Nissan’s global initiative and the company is hoping to reach 100,000 more road users in the third phase of this activity in India. This time, NSDF will visit eight more cities across seven states. The program starts in Chandigarh today and will move to Jalandhar, Jaipur, Vadodara, Nagpur, Vizag, Mangalore, before finally culminating in Kochi in the third week of December.

NSDF is part of Nissan’s ‘Blue Citizenship’ global social responsibility platform, under which the company addresses various issues that affect road users, including fatalities on the road. NSDF, which is one of the cogs in this wheel, is an innovative way to help people realize the importance of safety while driving or even as a pedestrian.

“The Nissan Safety Driving Forum helps drivers as well as passengers to reflect on their perception of safety while driving. We at Nissan follow our global vision to not only develop exciting and innovative products, but also to enrich peoples’ lives through sustainable social development of which NSDF is a shining example,” said Guillaume Sicard – Deputy President, Nissan India Operations.

Visitors to the Elante Mall in Chandigarh, today and tomorrow, will have the opportunity to visit the NSDF zone, where they can learn the importance of safety features like seatbelts and airbags through specially designed simulators and panel displays. The simulator devices have been made by Nissan in India in association with Bosch.

A rollover simulator, comprising of an actual Nissan Micra, recreates a safe rollover situation to demonstrate the importance of wearing seatbelts while in a car. A separate airbag simulator, comprising of a driver seat – steering wheel set up, displays how an airbag inflates in the event of a frontal impact by simulating crash conditions. In addition to these, visitors can also try their hands at a safety driving simulator that imparts safe driving techniques to users.

Visitors will also be able to test drive Nissan vehicles and learn about onboard safety technologies, including the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

”Our aim and conviction is to educate people on road safety through tangible methods like simulators, not just in theory. In this phase, we have increased the number of cities for reach. We have invested Rs 13 crore in NSDF in India so far,” Sicard added.

In its previous two phases more than 70,000 people attended the Nissan Safety Driving Forum.
