The recently launched Maruti Ignis is one among a number of new car displays at the Autocar Performance Show which opened today at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

The newest Maruti small car, which is a rival to the Mahindra KUV100, is the most affordable car to retail via the Nexa dealership chain which also markets the S-Cross and the Baleno. The car features crossover-like styling cues such as prominent wheel arches and body cladding while the rear gets a more retro look with styling in line with the Suzukis of yesteryear.

The Ignis is available in four trim levels – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha – and powered by Maruti’s tried-and-tested 83hp 1.2-litre K-series petrol and 75hp 1.3-litre DDiS190 diesel engines from the Baleno. A five-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard across the entire Ignis line-up with the mid-level Delta and Zeta trims also offering an AMT gearbox option for both motors. The base Sigma trim, though, is only available with a petrol engine.

The Ignis also offers a roomy cabin for the size and a fair bit of kit with dual-airbags and ABS being offered as standard while the top trim offers goodies like a SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, reverse camera, auto climate control and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.

Prices for the new Ignis range from Rs 459,000 for the base petrol model up to Rs 780,000 for the top diesel model (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

Performance cars on show

Nissan Motor India’s halo car – the 2017 Nissan GT-R – is being showcased at the Autocar Performance Show. The snazzy sports car is powered by a 570hp 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 and accelerates from 0-100kph in less than 3sec and has a top speed of 315kph. The successor to the legendary Skyline GT-R, the R35 GT-R was launched in India late last year at a price of Rs 1.99 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) following a comprehensive update to the model internationally.

Keeping it company is Ford India’s halo car – the Mustang. The muscle car, which is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 which develops a humungous 401hp and 515Nm of torque, has an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 66.30 lakh.
