Maruti, Hyundai sales flat, M&M down 7 percent

Maruti, Hyundai sales flat, M&M down 7 percent
Mumbai 1 November 2013: Maruti Suzuki recorded a sales increase of just 0.1 percent in September selling 96,062 units as against 96002 in the year-earlier month. While the Mini segment segment comprising M800, Alto, A star and Wagon R sold close to 40,000 units, the Swift, Estilo and Ritz sold 22,188 units. The Dxire sold 17, 211 units in the month, its highest showing since May this year. It was the only segment that recorded an increase other than the Eeco and Omni which cululatively sold 9,786 units, 11 percent more than 8,791 units sold in September 2012.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor India recorded sales of 50,212 units for October 2013 that comprised domestic sales for 36,002 units and exports at 14,210 units. Local sales were up just 0.6 percent over year-earlier sales of 35,778 units sales. The Grand i10 accounted for 30 percent of October sales.

Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP, sales & marketing, HMIL said, “In this challenging market environment, sales have increased over last month by 17 percent due to good monsoons, festival buying and strong sales of 11,519 units of new model Grand which received an overwhelming customer response making it to the top five volume sellers within 2 months of its launch.”

Mahindra & Mahindra stood at 50,558 units in the month. The passenger vehicles segment (which includes UVs and Verito) sold 22,924 units in October 2013 as compared 26,932 units during October 2012. Local sales stood at 47,787 units during October 2013, as against 51,316 units during October 2012, down seven percent.

Toyota recorded total sales of 15,576 units in October 2013 as compared to 14,040 units in the corresponding month last year. It sold 13,162 units in the domestic market and registered a seven growth as compared to domestic sales of 12,281 units in October 2012. Sandeep Singh, deputy MD and COO, marketing and Commercial, said, “October has seen good sales as the festive season has helped us in generating good numbers of enquiries and orders. Sales of all the models including the Innova, Etios, Liva, Fortuner and Corolla Altis have seen a positive growth last month.

Honda Cars recorded sales of 11214 units with the Amaze accounting for 9,654 units. The Brio sold 1472 units and the City 31 even as a new City is set to debut later this month.

General Motors India has sold 7,715 vehicles in October 2013 against 6,754 units sold in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 14 per cent. These include 2,679 units of Beat, 1,965 units of Chevrolet Enjoy and 1,837 units of Chevrolet Sail.
