Neither shaken nor stirred: Henkel's new hybrid bonders lift 624kg in a technology demonstration in Pune.

Henkel Adhesives Technologies India, a fully owned subsidiary of Henkel AG & Co, has launched two Loctite universal structural bonders, claiming them to be the next generation of universal bonders employing its patented hybrid technology.

Loctite HY 4060GY and Loctite HY 4090, which combine instant bonding qualities and structural bonding durability, reliability and strength, are billed to have capabilities that can radically transform manufacturing.

Loctite HY 4060GY is a two-component, general purpose structural adhesive that provides a high strength combined with fast fixture at room temperature. It is designed to bond a variety of substrates including metals, most plastics and rubbers. This product is ready to use and can be dispensed directly from the pack without additional equipment. The two-colored components of Loctite HY 4060GY allow for indication of proper mixing.

Loctite HY 4090 is a general-purpose adhesive designed to offer a versatile solution for challenging applications. The product offers good moisture, temperature and chemical resistance, is resistant to impact, vibration, and shock loads and can be used for cold-temperature applications. The product has a high viscosity and is marketed as an off-white to light yellow gel. The fixture time is 90-180 seconds and is suitable for gaps up to 5mm.

While Loctite HY 4090 is a fast and versatile structural bonder, Loctite HY 4060 GY is a durable 5-minute repair adhesive.

The products were launched yesterday at an event in Pune’s Auto Cluster Development & Research Institute, organized by Henkel Adhesives Technology India. Pradhyumna Ingle, Business Director, General Industry, Henkel Adhesives Technologies India, conducted a session on ‘Designing with Structural Adhesives’ and ‘Innovations in Structural Adhesives’ that highlighted the importance of structural adhesives, designing with adhesives, surface treatment, dispensing methods, launch of Loctite universal structural bonders, inspection and testing.

While general-purpose adhesives help create new opportunities for industrial design and repair solutions, hybrid adhesives can be used in various industries and applications that include production and manufacturing, design and assembly, medical device companies, heavy duty equipment, commercial vehicles, automotive, process industries, electrical machinery and component manufacturing.

Some of the benefits of hybrid products include good moisture, temperature and chemical resistance, resistance from impact and vibration, along with possibility of usage in cold-temperature applications.

In a technology demonstration (pictured below), Henkel India showcased two-iron red colored bolts that were bonded by the hybrid product, lifting 624kg all with a claimed 0.3 grams of Loctite hybrid bonder.
