General Motors has showcased the new sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro for the first time in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The car was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show last year.

Based on GM’s Alpha platform, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is over 90kg lighter than the previous model.

Chevrolet is offering the new Camaro with a choice of three petrol engines, which includes a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that produces 275bhp and 40.78kgm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which enables the new Camaro to go from 0-97kph in under 6 seconds. The car also gets a 3.6-litre V6 engine which produces 335bhp and 39.26kgm, available with a choice of six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The range-topping Camaro SS features the 2016 Corvette Stingray’s 6.2-litre small block V8 engine that produces 455bhp and 62.90kgm.

General Motors also showcased the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the 2016 Auto Expo.  The car’s 6.2-litre small block V8 engine is available with a choice of a seven-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The seventh-generation Corvette Stingray can accelerate from 0-97kph in just four seconds, without any additional performance package.

The 2016 Corvette Stingray features a carbon-fibre hood, carbon-nano composite underbody panels, and composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels, all of which help with weight saving. The interior of the rear-wheel drive supercar also features the usage of carbon-fibre, aluminum and leather materials, equipments like 8-inch digital instrument cluster, seats incorporating lightweight magnesium frame, MyLink infotainment system with 8-inch colour display and Performance Data Recorder to record driving on and off track.

Both the new Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette Stingray are available only in left-hand-drive configuration and General Motors currently has no plans to launch either car in India.
