Wang Yongqing appointed president of Shanghai GM

Shanghai GM today announced that Wang Yongqing has been appointed president of the joint venture, succeeding Wang Xiaoqiu.

Shanghai GM today announced that Wang Yongqing has been appointed president of the joint venture, succeeding Wang Xiaoqiu. Zhao Xuelin, former deputy secretary of the Shanghai GM party committee, will replace Wang Yongqing in his current position.
Wang Yongqing began his automotive industry career in 1990 with Shanghai Volkswagen. At the end of 1995, he began participating in preparatory work for the establishment of Shanghai GM. He joined the GM-SAIC joint venture in 1997, serving as project manager of planning and development, manager of the engine program and director of the Jinqiao South Plant. In 2006, he became general manager of Shanghai GM Dong Yue Motors, and later served as general manager of Shanghai GM Dong Yue Automotive Powertrain. In 2009, Wang Yongqing was appointed vice-president and a member of the executive committee of Shanghai GM, where he has been responsible for manufacturing, distribution and quality management.
Born in 1965, he has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tongji University, a master’s degree in scientific German language (electric) from Tongji University and a master’s degree in business administration from CEIBS in Shanghai.
Wang Xiaoqiu, who has been the head of Shanghai GM since August 2013, led the creation of the joint venture’s strategy for development, optimising its organizational structure, upgrading its core business capabilities, improving its talent management and strengthening its systematic competitiveness. He also championed innovation across Shanghai GM to help ensure its long-term sustainable development.
