SAIC-GM-Wuling has taken the covers off the Baojun 530, its third SUV, at Auto Guangzhou 2017. The company is targeteing the new compact SUV at younger buyers for the Baojun brand.

On the outside, the Bajoun 530 features a wide grille giving the SUV an aggressive front fascia. The vehicle borrows the LED headlight design from its sibling, the Baojun 510 small SUV. The sides have three parallel character lines. The company claims the horizontal waistline extending from the headlights to the taillights offers a three-dimensional look. The second and third character lines below the waistline provide a complementary sharp geometric surface.

The horizontal character lines are also applied to the rear of the Baojun 530, expanding the sense of width and strength. According to the company, the roof of the vehicle is inspired by the tail of a jet fighter that integrates a high-mounted stop lamp.

The SUV has a length of 4655mm, width of 1835mm and height of 1760mm. Its chassis incorporates a McPherson front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension, which maximise ride comfort, handling and stability. It will be available with a choice of a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine or a 1.5T turbocharged engine.

According to the company in the first 10 months of 2017, Baojun sales rose 45.3 percent on an annual basis to a record 744,962 units.

General Motors currently has 10 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 58,000 employees in China. Its passenger cars and commercial vehicles are sold under the Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang and Wuling brands. In 2016, GM says it sold more than 3.8 million vehicles in China.
