Harley-Davidson recalls 57,138 motorcycles, US market affected majorly

American legendary cruiser motorcycle specialist Harley Davidson has issued one of its biggest recalls ever, over the possible hazard of an oil leak.

The underlying fault has been tracked down to an improperly installed clamp in the oil cooling system, which could trigger a high pressure oil line to detach, jutting out oil towards the rear tyre.

The impacted motorcycles include cruisers like the Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide, Road King Special, Road Glide Special, Street Glide Special, Road King Classic and the Electra Glide Ultra Classic, all belonging to the MY2017 make series.

Harley-Davidson has appealed to the affected customer base in the US to bring down their motorcycles to its authorised workshops, for an inspection and rectification of the clamp fitment. Also, Customers could punch in the VIN numbers of their vehicles on the company’s website to verify whether their motorcycle is part of the voluntary recall activity being carried out.

In India, the company sells three of the total affected models, which include the Road King, Street Glide Special and the Road Glide Special. However, any customer support information from the company in this regard has not yet been issued.

Harley-Davidson Motor India has been facing some turbulent times, with the company closing FY2017 with sales of 3,690 units (-21.62%). Its efforts to revive its numbers in the Indian domestic market could be seen as the company recently introduced its 2017 Street Rod 750 in the country.
