Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2016) Round up

Although the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas primarily focuses on technology, this year car manufacturers have stolen the event with some of the most diverse and advanced concepts on display.

New vehicle debuts have come from the likes of Volkswagen, BMW, Aston Martin and new venture Faraday Future, while many more manufacturers have showcased their latest technology and innovations. The general themes among automakers appear to be that of connectivity, electric mobility and autonomous driving. 

Automotive suppliers have also upped the ante with new technologies for carmakers including a virtual reality showroom experience.

CES 2016 – The major cars

Aston Martin Rapide S

Aston Martin revealed a Rapide S with new internet-based infotainment system developed by Chinese technology giant Letv. The company could also build a bespoke electric supercar for Letv in the future.

BMW i Vision Future Interaction

Technology housed within the i8 Spyder concept includes a next-generation HUD, high-definition displays and advanced traffic information.

Chevrolet Bolt

GM's joined the electric small car bandwagon with the launch of the Bolt EV, claiming a range of more than 200 miles.

Faraday Future

The first concept car from this Chinese-backed start-up, the FFZERO1, turned plenty of heads at CES, mainly due to its electric powertrain capable of producing a 1000 bhp and reaching 96.5 kph in 3 seconds.

Jaguar F-Pace connected car

Jaguar has partnered with Intel to show the power of connected cars. This F-Pace can tell you if you've left personal items inside the house.

Kia Drive Wise

In order to house all its future autonomous driving services, the Korean carmaker launched the ‘Drive Wise’ banner, as the brand prepares to test on public roads in Nevada.

Volkswagen Budd-e

VW's new all-electric concept van is said to have a range of 500 km with the ability to charge upto 80 percent in half an hour.

Autoliv’s active safety solutions

Autoliv showcased automotive safety systems such as lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spots, adaptive cruise control braking and backup aids at the CES.

BMW Motorrad’s laser light and helmet with HUD

BMW Motorrad displayed two innovations at the CES: a laser light fitted on K 1600 GTL concept vehicle and a Head-up display helmet that displays road info in sight.

Bosch Haptic touchscreen

Bosch plans to help keep driver's eyes on the road with its new haptic feedback infotainment system. The system can also recognise the amount of pressure being applied to a button. 

Continental’s Connected Energy Management

Continental’s Powertrain division is set to showcase 48 volt mild hybrid demo car with cEM at the CES.

Harman eye tracking

Harman's new technology uses eye tracking software and a camera to monitor a driver's state of alertness.

Schaeffler Glass Car

Apart from its products, Schaeffler’s display at the CES will include a ‘glass car’ containing around 40 products and technologies. 

Toyota mapping

The Japanese manufacturer's new mapping technology pieces together images using data from GPS devices and onboard cameras as part of a US$ 1 billion research effort.

VW and Mobileye partnership

Automated image processing specialist, Mobileye entered into a JV with Volkswagen for camera-based real-time image processing technology, a key technology for autonomous driving.

Volkswagen e-Golf Touch

Launched parallely to the Budd-e, the next generation infotainment system features gesture control and advanced voice recognition.

Volvo smartwatch control

Volvo and Ericsson’s intelligent media streaming

Yamaha’s Motobot
